My name is Katya Salas, and I am the first full-time D.C. hire at KLIK- a rapidly growing Marketing Agency based in D.C.! I switched over from PwC about six months ago (August ‘18) after working for two years in the Private Company Sector of Assurance. Prior to joining the workforce, I grew up in the Dallas area and went to the University of Richmond on a full-ride tennis scholarship. I graduated in 2016 with a degree in Accounting and a minor in Spanish.

When I was in college, I was drawn to the idea of working at a Big 4 firm due to the strong name recognition and clear career growth path that it offered. However, after two years at PwC, I knew that it was time for a change. I wanted to be more than just a number at a large firm, doing a job that I was not truly passionate about.

My interest in marketing began to develop in two different ways: I was exposed to several interesting marketing agencies at PwC that we had as clients, and I was growing a health and wellness Instagram account on the side where I was developing content and working with a variety of brands. KLIK came to my attention soon after, and I was excited about the incredible opportunity to switch industries while making an impact at a company in the early stages of growth. I felt that my skills transferred well into a digital marketing analyst role as I had a strong affinity for numbers in addition to a creative side that was not being utilized in my current role.

The switch was intimidating considering I would be transitioning to a D.C. start-up ad agency in the early stages of growth. Countless thoughts ran through my head: would I adapt to the marketing industry, would I enjoy the work as much as envisioned, would the agency maintain growth?

Six months ago, I ultimately made that leap of faith, and I have yet to look back.

The personalized attention and training on software, tools, and marketing resources, in addition to learning how to critically think and analyze data sets has been invaluable. I have had the opportunity to perform both the analysis and management of Google Ads search accounts, while also focusing on agency and client strategy. With my background in numbers, the analytical side was a smooth transition, and I have found the workload very interesting so far.

It has been incredibly exciting to witness and contribute to the rapid growth of KLIK. Our goal is to become the largest and best agency in the D.C. area, and eventually, the world.

Since I have started, we have already hired three additional full-time employees, significantly diversified the client portfolio, and added a variety of employee benefits. It is truly amazing to see how far we have already come, and I cannot wait to see what 2019 has in store for KLIK!
